New Delhi, May 6 (HS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday decisively stated regarding the decision to suspend the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan that India's water will now flow in favor of India, will stop in favor of India, and will be used for the benefit of India.
Attacking previous governments on the issue of water, he accused them of keeping river water a point of contention between states for decades. The current government is seeking solutions through ambitious river linking projects. In this context, he mentioned the Ken-Betwa link project and the Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal link project, saying that these will benefit millions of farmers and resolve irrigation issues.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the ABP network's India@2047 summit today. During his speech, he focused on the tough decisions made by his government under his leadership and their effects. Describing national interest as paramount in his government's policy, he took a jibe at previous governments, stating, There was a time when it was thought before making decisions about what the world will say or how it would impact the vote bank. But today, India is shaping policies in the national interest, and the country is benefiting from it.
In his address, the Prime Minister also spoke about the free trade agreement between India and the UK. He termed it a historic day for India and said that this agreement will open a new economic chapter for both countries.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that we have chosen the path of human-centered globalization. True development is measured not by the strength of markets but by the dignity of individuals and the fulfillment of their dreams. For this reason, India's focus is not just on GDP (Gross Domestic Product) but also on GEP, which stands for 'Gross Empowerment of People.' Now, the metric for the country's progress will be the dignity, self-reliance, and aspirations of every individual.
The Prime Minister described self-reliance as part of India's economic identity and expressed surprise that for decades India was only seen as a 'market.' He said that this mindset has now changed. India is emerging as a producer in many sectors today.
He also emphasized the synergy between tradition and technology. Modi stated that India is now among the top countries in the world in terms of digital transactions. Additionally, traditional disciplines like yoga and Ayurveda are gaining global recognition. The Prime Minister's perspective clarifies that India is moving towards becoming not just an economic power, but also a socially and culturally empowered nation.
