New Delhi, May 22 (H.S.): Grand Slam champion Rory McIlroy will take part in the $4 million prize-money DP World India Championship scheduled to be held at the Delhi Golf Club in October. This tournament will take place from October 16 to 19.
Rory McIlroy said in an official statement on Wednesday, I always enjoy playing in global tournaments. There are tremendous opportunities to advance golf in India. This is a fantastic opportunity for me, and I am excited to play in front of Indian golf fans.
Yuvraj Narayan, Chief Financial Officer of DP World, stated, India is one of the fastest-growing economies in the world. We are showcasing Delhi on a global sports platform and creating a platform to inspire young talents. Rory McIlroy’s participation will not only attract global attention but will also help establish India as a premier golf destination.
McIlroy completed his career Grand Slam by winning the prestigious green jacket this April. Before this, he had won the U.S. Open in 2011, the U.S. PGA Championship in 2012 and 2014, and the Open Championship in 2014.
The DP World India Championship will be the eighth event of the second phase of the 2025 Race to Dubai. Following this phase, there will be playoff matches, culminating in the DP World Tour Championship at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai in November.
