Washington , 22 May (H.S.): Two staff members of the Israeli embassy were shot and killed outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C., as reported by U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. The shooting occurred around 21:05 local time near 3rd and F Streets NW, a popular area for tourists and museums, suggesting the act was targeted. Multiple embassy employees were present at the museum event when the incident unfolded. Noem confirmed an active investigation is underway, urging prayers for the victims' families and vowing justice.

Israel's UN ambassador condemned the act as depraved anti-Semitic terrorism, asserting that harming diplomats crosses a critical line. A significant police response followed, leading to traffic shutdowns as law enforcement searched for the suspect, described as a goateed man in blue jeans and a blue jacket. The Capitol campus of Georgetown University was locked down for safety. Concerns about security among Jewish institutions have risen amidst increasing antisemitism, prompting the Capital Jewish Museum to recently enhance its security measures, especially in light of new exhibits related to sensitive topics such as LGBT pride. Executive Director Beatrice Gurwitz emphasized the need for a secure and welcoming environment for all visitors.
