Guwahati, 14 May (HS): An important meeting was held under the chairmanship of Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu in the auditorium of I-Block of Janata Bhavan on Wednesday in the presence of representatives of all the universities and colleges of the state. In this meeting, detailed discussions were held on smooth completion of the enrollment process in higher educational institutions in the state through 'Samartha Portal'.

Addressing the meeting, Minister Dr. Pegu said that keeping in mind the speed at which technology is bringing change in human society at present, we will have to strongly modernize the field of education with the help of technology.

He said that through the 'Samartha Portal' developed with completely indigenous technology, not only enrollment, but other educational processes will also become more structured, simple and transparent. Out of the 40 modules available in the portal, enrollment is only one part, through the remaining 39 modules, the education system can be made technology-based and more efficient. For this, the minister appealed to all the institutions to come forward.

He also said that adopting technology in the field of education and knowledge acquisition is the need of the hour. Dr. Pegu emphasized on developing a competitive approach to promote technological innovations among higher educational institutions.

Along with this, he said that revolutionary changes have already come in school education through the 'Shiksha Setu' app and now the same model will be implemented in higher education as well. Keeping in mind the decline in the passing percentage of students and other concerns at present, very soon the attendance of students in colleges and universities will also be recorded through Shiksha Setu.

Vice Chancellors of various universities of the state, Secretary of Higher Education Department Narayan Konwar and Director Pami Barua etc. were present in this important meeting.
