Seoul, April 8 (HS): Han Duck-soo, the acting president and prime minister of South Korea, declared in a cabinet meeting that new presidential elections will occur on June 3, following the Constitutional Court's removal of President Yoon Suk-yeol. Yoon's surprising announcement of short-term martial law last December led to his impeachment by the National Assembly.

The Constitutional Court upheld this impeachment, resulting in his immediate removal. Han confirmed June 3 as a public holiday and outlined the election timeline after consulting the

National Election Commission. Public officials wishing to run must resign by May 4, while the campaign period will run from May 12 to June 2, with voting on June 3.
