Gurugram (Haryana), April 26 (H.S.): In the Global Indian Pro Kabaddi League (GI-PKL), the Tamil Lions and Punjabi Tigers secured their places in the women's semifinals on Friday. The matches were played at Gurugram University.
The league stage for women's matches will conclude on Sunday, making it a very special day as the remaining four teams will battle for the last two spots in the semifinals.
In the matches played on Friday, Punjabi Tigers, Haryanvi Eagles, and Bhojpuri Leperdes recorded victories in their respective games. On this occasion, IAS and Principal Commissioner Mona Srinivas, along with Gurugram University's Dean and Proctor Professor Ashok Khanna, honored the 'Player of the Match' awardees.
Kanti D. Suresh, President of the Holistic International Migrant Sports Association (HIPSA), GI-PKL co-founder Karthik Dammu, and Sohan Tusir were also present as special guests.
In the first match, Haryanvi Eagles achieved a thrilling victory over Marathi Falcons, winning 29-28. This marked Haryanvi Eagles' first victory in the league. The Marathi Falcons initially took the lead with 16 raid points, but Haryanvi Eagles' strong defense laid the groundwork for their victory with 15 tackle points and 4 super tackles.
In the second match, Bhojpuri Leperdes defeated Telugu Cheetahs 26-25. Although the Cheetahs scored 17 raid points, the Leperdes' robust defense secured the match with 10 tackle points and 2 all-out points. This match was also thrilling until the very end.
In the third match, Punjabi Tigers delivered a crushing defeat to Tamil Lions with a score of 40-18. The Tigers showcased a one-sided performance with 19 raid points, 15 tackle points, and 6 all-out points. The Tamil Lions struggled in defense and managed to collect only 4 tackle points. The Tigers' all-round performance earned them a significant victory, which included a super raid.
Men's matches will resume on Saturday:
- 6:00 PM: Haryanvi Sharks vs. Tamil Lions
- 7:00 PM: Punjab Tigers vs. Bhojpuri Leperdes
- The final league stage match at 8:00 PM will be between Marathi Vultures and Telugu Panthers.
The men's teams include: Marathi Vultures, Bhojpuri Leperdes, Telugu Panthers, Tamil Lions, Punjabi Tigers, and Haryanvi Sharks. The women's teams include: Marathi Falcons, Bhojpuri Leperdes, Telugu Cheetahs, Tamil Lions, Punjab Tigers, and Haryanvi Eagles.
