Islamabad, April 25 (HS): On Friday, the Senate passed a unanimous resolution condemning India's efforts to link Pakistan to the recent deadly attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, which resulted in 26 deaths and 17 injuries. The attack, which targeted tourists, triggered a meeting of Pakistan's National Security Committee (NSC), urging India to stop its blame game and exploitation of such incidents for political gain. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar introduced the resolution affirming Pakistan's readiness to defend itself against any aggression. It denounced the killing of civilians as contrary to Pakistan's values and rejected any baseless connections to the attack. The Senate also condemned India’s campaign to malign Pakistan, which it claimed aligns with a pattern of exploiting terrorism issues for political ends.

India's response included suspending the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty and downgrading diplomatic relations following the attack, which India attributed to alleged Pakistani support for cross-border terrorism without presenting evidence. The Senate resolution emphasized Pakistan's capability to defend its sovereignty against any threats and warned that any Indian misadventure would face a strong response. It underscored the Pakistani people's commitment to peace while steadfastly safeguarding national interests and security, demanding accountability from India for various terrorist acts impacting Pakistan. The resolution concluded by reaffirming Pakistan's unwavering support for the Kashmiri people's right to self-determination.

During a Senate session today, Dar delivered a resolution asserting that Pakistan's armed forces stand ready to counter any threats or hostility. He warned India against actions that would disturb regional peace and development. Senator Sherry Rehman echoed these sentiments, referencing Prime Minister Modi's attempt to weaponize water and the resilience of existing treaties throughout conflicts. She emphasized the importance of peace but insisted that Pakistan would not shy away from firm action if provoked, noting the unity of the nation.

Rehman further criticized the double standards in responses to espionage incidents, highlighting India's chaotic reactions to similar situations. She referenced an incident involving captured Indian pilot Abhinandan, using humor to illustrate Pakistan's resilience and openness. Additionally, she reminded India of Pakistan's nuclear capability established by former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, cautioning against further provocations.

Rehman pointed out India's continuous military focus on Pakistan, contrasting it with Pakistan's lack of obsession towards India. She warned that irresponsible actions from India could jeopardize its own citizens, emphasizing that both nations are nuclear powers without risk reduction measures. She reaffirmed Pakistan's preference for peace but declared that any provocation would be met with decisive action, making it clear that while Pakistan seeks stability, it will not hesitate to protect its sovereignty.
