Cachar (Assam), 23 April (HS): Cachar police on Wednesday seized drugs worth a total of ₹4 crore 1 lakh in a major operation under the War on Drugs drive.

Based on reliable information received by the police, an autorickshaw (AS11 DC 0297) was stopped near Sildubi on Silchar-Mizoram Road. During the search, 10,000 Yaba tablets were recovered and an accused Shahid Ahmed Lashkar (24) was arrested.

Based on another input, the police raided the house of drug peddler Joydeep Das (30). He is said to be involved in illegal drug trade as well as organized criminal activities of mobile theft. The accused supplies heroin in exchange for stolen mobiles. 520 empty vials and 39 filled vials (with possibly two grams of heroin) were recovered from the house.

In another action, the police arrested Salim Uddin in Basti No. 16 near the RCC bridge on the Salganga river and seized 10,000 Yaba tablets from him.

All the narcotics have been seized as part of legal action and further investigation is underway. The action of Cachar Police against the drug mafia continues unabated.
