New Delhi, April 2 (HS) : The Delhi High Court has directed Wikipedia to remove content that edits information portraying a news agency as a propaganda tool of the government. Justice Subramanyam Prasad's bench issued this interim order. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the matter on April 4.

Justice Subramonium Prasad's bench stated that a detailed order will be uploaded on the court's website by the evening. The Delhi High Court had remarked on October 21, 2024, that there could be nothing worse for a news agency than being labeled as a government propaganda tool. On September 5, 2024, a contempt notice against Wikipedia was issued by the court. The court indicated that if its orders are not complied with in the future, it would take strict action.

The news agency alleged that information on the Wikipedia website stated that it is a propaganda tool of the government. The High Court had instructed Wikipedia to disclose the identity of the user who wrote this information, but Wikipedia did not reveal the user's identity.

In July 2024, the High Court sent a notice to Wikipedia, stating that it should disclose the name of the person who edited the news agency's details. If the name is not provided, how can the news agency present its case in the petition filed?

The Delhi High Court made this remark when Wikipedia stated that the court's notice regarding the user was being communicated to the relevant news agency, but it would not include the user's identity. If this happens, the users' privacy would not be compromised, and the court would still receive complete information regarding the relevant users.
