Delhi, 2 April (H.S.): The Indian Navy's frontline frigate, INS Tarkash, has intercepted over 2500 kg of illicit narcotics in the Western Indian Ocean, emphasizing its commitment to combating maritime crime. Since January 2025, it has been part of maritime security operations, supporting Combined Task Force 150, based in Bahrain, and participating in the Anzac Tiger operation.

On 31 April 2025, INS Tarkash acted on intelligence from Indian Navy P8I aircraft regarding suspicious vessels potentially involved in narcotics trafficking. The frigate altered course to investigate, deploying its helicopter to monitor the area and launching a boarding team alongside Marine Commandos. A thorough search of a suspect Dhow revealed 2386 kg of hashish and 121 kg of heroin.

Following comprehensive questioning of the crew, this operation showcased the Indian Navy's effectiveness in disrupting narcotics trafficking and highlighted its role in ensuring regional security and stability in the Indian Ocean Region through multinational collaboration.
