New Delhi, April 2 (H.S.): The Janata Dal United (JD(U)), part of the central National Democratic Alliance government, supported the Waqf Amendment Bill presented in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. Participating in the ongoing discussion on the bill, party leader Rajiv Ranjan, also known as Lalan Singh, stated that during his party's 20 years of governance in Bihar, the most work has been done for the benefit of Muslims. They do not need a certificate of secularism from anyone.

JD(U) leader Rajiv Ranjan, alias Lalan Singh, mentioned that there is confusion being spread about Waqf, claiming it to be anti-Muslim. He stated that Waqf is not a Muslim institution; it is merely a trust. The Waqf Board is only an administrative and regulatory body. The trust should ensure justice for all Muslims, including women and marginalized Muslims.

He added that the opposition to the bill is coming from two types of people: those who want to engage in vote bank politics and those who occupy Waqf properties. The Modi government aims for transparency in Waqf and wants to increase revenue from its assets. Targeting the opposition regarding the caste census, he raised the issue of marginalized Muslims, stating that their enumeration should also take place.
