New Delhi, April 3 (HS): The Rouse Avenue Court has dismissed the criminal defamation petition filed by former Congress MP Sandeep Dixit against Delhi's former Chief Minister Atishi Marlena and MP Sanjay Singh. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Paras Dalal refused to take cognizance of Sandeep Dixit's petition.

In his petition, Sandeep Dixit alleged that Atishi Marlena and Sanjay Singh had accused him in a press conference on December 26, 2024, of taking crores of rupees from the BJP. It was also alleged that he was involved in a conspiracy with the BJP to defeat the Aam Aadmi Party. The petition described the statements made by Atishi Marlena and Sanjay Singh during the press conference as false and baseless. It stated that through their statements, they attempted to tarnish Sandeep Dixit's image.

Sandeep Dixit had stated on January 27 that if Sanjay Singh and Atishi retracted the allegations against him, he might consider not pursuing the criminal defamation case against them. The court had issued notice to Atishi Marlena and Sanjay Singh on Sandeep Dixit's petition on January 16.

Sandeep Dixit was the Congress candidate from the New Delhi seat in the Delhi Assembly elections. Arvind Kejriwal, the convener of the Aam Aadmi Party and former Chief Minister of Delhi, was also a candidate from the same seat. BJP leader and Delhi government minister Pravesh Verma won from this seat.
