New Delhi, April 2 (H.S.): A delegation led by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) National Secretary Shravan B. Raj and Shivangi Kharwal met with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday and submitted a memorandum regarding the serious issue of encroachment and auction of 400 acres of land of Hyderabad University. The delegation urged the central government to intervene immediately to save this land and restore the university's rights over it.
In this context, ABVP held a press conference condemning the Telangana government's arbitrary actions and attempts to suppress the voices of students. The council clarified that handing over this land dedicated to education and research to private companies is not only unfair and condemnable but will also severely harm the ecological balance of the region. This land holds educational significance and is an important environmental heritage due to its rich biodiversity. It provides a natural habitat for many rare species, whose existence is threatened. The destruction of this land will severely impact the biological ecosystem, leading to long-term negative effects on climate balance, wildlife conservation, and environmental stability.
The land of Hyderabad University is not just a plot, but an educational and ecological heritage that must not be allowed to be destroyed under any circumstances. When ABVP activists and the student community raised their voices against this injustice, the Telangana police forcibly entered the campus without the university administration's permission and arrested students. This is not only a violation of the democratic rights of students but also a direct assault on the autonomy of the university. ABVP demanded that the central government intervene to immediately return this 400 acres of land to the university and ensure the official transfer of the entire 2320 acres of land, eliminating any possibilities of encroachment in the future.
In this regard, ABVP's National Minister Shivangi Kharwal stated that the land of Hyderabad University is the educational and environmental heritage of the nation, and handing it over to private companies is an assault on the rights of students. ABVP will not compromise and if necessary, will undertake a nationwide movement.
ABVP's National Minister Shravan B. Raj stated that encroachment on the land of educational institutions is unacceptable in any form. The purpose of university land should solely be education and research, not auctioned for commercial profit. We will organize students against this injustice, intensify the struggle, and take every possible step to ensure that the university gets its rightful claim. We submitted a memorandum to the Union Minister of Education, Dharmendra Pradhan, who assured us that the central government is taking this matter seriously. He informed us that a letter has been sent to the Chief Minister of Telangana demanding a solution and that the central government will soon take concrete steps. ABVP appeals to the student community across the country to support this land protection movement.
