New Delhi, April 2 (H.S.): The bilateral exercise 'Indra' between the Indian and Russian navies concluded on Wednesday. This exercise, which took place in two phases, has become a symbol of maritime cooperation, demonstrating the commitment to enhancing the inter-operability and operational coordination of both countries' navies. The two navies participated in complex tactical maneuvers and joint exercises focused on air and surface targets off the coast of Chennai and in the Bay of Bengal.

Initiated in 2003, this exercise symbolizes the enduring maritime partnership between India and Russia and represents the long-term strategic relationship between the two navies. The 14th edition of the India-Russia bilateral naval exercise 'Indra' began on March 28 off the coast of Chennai. The ships from both countries commenced the port phase and conducted exercises until March 30. The port phase included subject matter expert exchanges, reciprocal visits, sports events, and pre-sail briefings among the personnel of both navies.

Following this, the maritime phase in the Bay of Bengal took place from March 31 to April 2. The maritime phase included advanced naval exercises, featuring tactical maneuvers, live weapon firing, anti-air operations, underway replenishment, helicopter cross-deck landings, and the exchange of sea-riders. Ships from the Russian navy such as Pechenga, Rezkiy, and Aldar Tsidenzhapov participated alongside Indian navy ships Rana, Kuthar, and the maritime patrol aircraft P8I.

This exercise, conducted in two phases, has become a symbol of maritime cooperation, reflecting the commitment to enhancing the inter-operability and operational coordination of both countries' navies. The aim of these exercises and discussions was to enhance maritime cooperation, strengthen friendly relations, exchange best operational practices, and strengthen diplomatic ties between the two countries.
