Kathmandu, April 19 (HS): Despite repeated requests from the Nepal government, several social media sites have refused to register in accordance with government directives in Nepal. Annoyed by this, the Nepal government is now preparing to impose a ban on these social media sites.

Nepal's government spokesperson and Minister of Communications, Prithvi Subba Gurung, stated at an event in Kathmandu on Saturday that preparations are underway to impose a ban on social media sites that have not registered in Nepal. Initially, a three-month period was given, followed by an additional one-month period. Despite this, social platforms such as Facebook, X, WhatsApp, and Instagram have not registered in Nepal. He mentioned that the final one-month deadline ended on April 19, and therefore, a decision will be made on Sunday to impose a ban on all social media sites that have not registered in Nepal. It is essential to impose a ban on social media companies that do not comply with Nepal's laws and disregard the government's notifications. The Nepal government will ban Facebook, X, WhatsApp, and Instagram according to its laws.

Since the issuance of the notification by the Nepal government, only YouTube, Viber, WeChat, and TikTok have registered in Nepal. Other companies have not even sent a reply to the Nepal government's decree. The company operating social media sites like Facebook, WhatsApp, and Messenger has even refused to hold a virtual meeting with the Nepal government.
