Chennai, 18 April (H.S.) : A staff member of the Tamil Nadu Forensic Science Department was arrested in Villupuram for allegedly defrauding government job aspirants of Rs 75 lakh by promising them employment in the department. The accused, identified as Suresh Kumar, a lab technician, was apprehended following complaints from multiple victims who were lured with false assurances of securing jobs.
According to police reports, Kumar and his accomplices ran a racket targeting unemployed youth, collecting hefty sums under the pretext of processing fees and bribes to expedite job placements. The scam came to light when several aspirants, who had paid amounts ranging from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh, realized they had been duped after months of no progress. The victims lodged a complaint with the Villupuram police, leading to Kumar’s arrest.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Kumar exploited his position to gain the trust of victims, fabricating documents and staging fake interviews. Authorities suspect more individuals may be involved in the racket and are probing the extent of the fraud. The police have recovered incriminating evidence, including forged appointment letters and bank transaction records.
The incident has sparked outrage among locals, with calls for stricter oversight in government recruitment processes. The Forensic Science Department has suspended Kumar and initiated an internal inquiry. Villupuram police have urged other potential victims to come forward as the investigation continues.
