Chennai, 1 April (H.S.) : A devastating road accident in Tamil Nadu's Chengalpattu district has claimed the lives of three members of a family, including a one-year-old child on Tuesday. Four others were injured in the tragic incident, which occurred when a tipper lorry rammed into their car at a traffic signal near Singaperumal Kovil.

According to police sources, the family of seven was traveling from Chennai to Madurai after attending a function. The victims have been identified as Karthik (35), his wife Nandhini (30), and their one-year-old son Sai Velan.

The accident occurred when the family's car stopped at a traffic signal, and a speeding tipper lorry crashed into it from behind, crushing it against a container lorry in front. The car was severely damaged, and onlookers, motorists, and fire service personnel had to rescue the trapped family members.

Ayyanar (65), the grandfather, and Saravanan (35), the driver, were killed on the spot. Sai Velan succumbed to his injuries at a hospital, where the four other injured family members are currently undergoing treatment. Their condition is reported to be critical.

The accident caused a significant disruption to traffic on the Chennai-Trichy National Highway, with traffic being halted for nearly two hours. The Guduvancherry Traffic police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
