Ahmedabad, March 25 (H.S.): Rail traffic on the Ahmedabad-Mumbai route was restored about 30 hours after a crane accident on the Vatva Roopad Bridge, which occurred around 11 PM on Sunday during the Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train project.
At the time, a segmental launching gantry was installing a concrete girder when it lost balance and fell, damaging the track and overhead wires. The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited initiated immediate repairs to remove the crane, with the assistance of 300 personnel and multiple cranes, including a 750-ton crane.
The crane was successfully removed within 24 hours, and debris was cleared by late at night. By early morning, repairs to the railway tracks and overhead electric wires were completed, allowing rail traffic to resume at 6 AM. The incident led to the cancellation of 28 trains on Monday.
Notably, the Tejas train had just passed 15 minutes before the crane collapsed, and had a goods train received its signal to proceed, a more serious accident could have occurred.
