NEW DELHI, 19 March (H.S.) : During the special budget meeting of the Delhi Municipal
Corporation, a disturbance erupted as councillors from the opposition parties,
Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress, engaged in a scuffle with members of the
Aam Aadmi Party.
The meeting of the Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) has
once again been thrown into disarray. As soon as the session began, councillors
from both the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress moved into the well of
the house, resulting in a chaotic atmosphere. This disruption intensified into
a physical confrontation between the BJP councillors and their counterparts
from the Aam Aadmi Party.
Leader of the House Mukesh Goyal commenced the reading of
the revised budget estimates for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi for the
fiscal year 2024-25, along with the budget estimates for 2025-26. However, BJP
councillors disrupted the session by climbing onto the mayor's desk and tearing
the agenda copy. After a brief adjournment of approximately 20 minutes, the
proceedings of the corporation resumed. Once the meeting reconvened, the mayor
approved the budget as presented by Mukesh Goyal, dismissed the opposition's
proposed amendments, and subsequently adjourned the House once more.
