NEW DELHI, 19 March (H.S.) : Today, Vijender Gupta, the Speaker of the Delhi Assembly,
announced the introduction of the 'Best MLA of the Year' award. The Parliament
of India also has this kind of award called Best Parliamentarian.
This prestigious annual honour has been created to recognize and encourage
outstanding legislative accomplishments. The primary criteria for this award
include notable contributions to parliamentary debates, active participation in
House proceedings, attendance records in the Assembly, and the maintenance of
discipline and decorum within the House. The Deputy Speaker, Mohan Singh Bisht,
was also in attendance for this announcement.
The Speaker also stated that this award will motivate the
MLAs to uphold the highest standards of parliamentary decorum and engage
actively in significant legislative debates. This represents a crucial
advancement in transforming the Delhi Assembly into an 'ideal assembly,'
establishing new standards in democratic governance.
The Parliamentary Research and Training Institute for
Democracies (formerly known as BPST) organized a two-day orientation program
aimed at equipping newly-elected MLAs with essential parliamentary knowledge.
The agenda included in-depth discussions on constitutional provisions, rules of
business conduct, procedures for question hours, legislative proposals, and the
framework for policy-making. Experts led lectures, dialogues, and interactive
sessions that offered significant insights into good governance and the
legislative process.
The Speaker of the Assembly conveyed his satisfaction with
the success of the program and highlighted the significance of similar training
initiatives aimed at enhancing the Assembly's efficiency. He remarked that
these comprehensive training sessions will provide our MLAs with the crucial
knowledge and skills necessary for delivering more effective public service.
The Delhi Assembly is continually striving to strengthen democratic
institutions and improve the competencies of its MLAs, thus promoting good governance
and accountability in the national capital.
