NEW DELHI, 12 March (H.S.): The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) convened to discuss
the 'One Nation, One Election' (ONOE) initiative, during which former Chief
Justices and legal experts presented their insights. Members from various
political parties posed inquiries regarding the topic. The JPC has resolved to
initiate advertisements and establish websites in the near future to gauge
public sentiment. The subsequent meeting is scheduled for March 17.
The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) convened a session cantered
on the One Nation, One Election (ONOE) initiative, under the leadership of JPC
Chairman PP Chaudhary. Among the distinguished participants were former Chief
Justice Ranjan Gogoi and former Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, Rajendra
Memon. Legal experts provided their comprehensive insights regarding this
matter.
Committee members from different political parties posed numerous
inquiries on a range of topics. Several Congress members in attendance at the
meeting questioned the legitimacy of the bill.
Following the meeting, JPC Chairman PP Chaudhary stated
that all members are committed to serving the national interest. He emphasized
that the JPC operates independently of party politics. Additionally, PP
Chaudhary mentioned that the concerns raised by committee members are being
addressed. In the future, various legal and subject matter experts will be
invited to contribute. The committee has also resolved to utilize
advertisements and websites to gather public opinion.
The chairman of the committee has announced that
advertisements will be published in a range of newspapers and media platforms
to gauge public sentiment regarding the concept of one country, one election.
These advertisements will include a QR code, allowing individuals to access the
website directly and submit their views. Furthermore, a dedicated website for
ONOE will be launched shortly, enabling both stakeholders and the general
public to express their opinions.
In the upcoming days, additional legal experts will be
invited to the meeting to ensure a comprehensive discussion of all relevant
aspects. During today's meeting, it was agreed upon unanimously that the
subsequent JPC meeting is scheduled for March 17. On that date, Attorney
General Venkataramani and esteemed jurist Harish Salve will be summoned to
address the topic of one country, one election, and they will share their
insights with the JPC.
