Imphal, 13 July (HS):
In a series of swift, intelligence-based operations carried out across Manipur’s Imphal East, Thoubal, and Bishnupur districts on July 11 and 12 July, security forces apprehended five militants linked to banned insurgent outfits.
From Laikhong village under Thoubal Dam Police Station in Imphal East, two Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) operatives were captured. The accused have been identified as 36-year-old Sagolshem Lalit Meitei from Itham Mamang Leikai and Ahongshangbam Tomba Singh from Itham Wangma Leikai.
In another raid within the same district, security forces arrested Khumukcham Abosana Singh (24), affiliated with the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-APUNBA), from his residence at Kongpal Chingangbam Leikai under Porompat Police Station.
Meanwhile, in Thoubal district, a key Revolutionary People's Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA) cadre—Meisnam Manglemnganba Meitei alias Chumthangkhanba or Naotomba (27)—was taken into custody from Wangjing Bazar. He is alleged to be involved in recruiting new members, extortion, and collecting funds across Thoubal and Bishnupur. Recovered from him were several personal documents and items, including ID cards, a mobile phone, and a money bag.
A separate operation on July 11 led to the arrest of KCP (Taibanganba) member Thingujam Ramesh Singh alias Alex or Pinky (31) at Tronglaobi Bazar under Moirang Police Station, Bishnupur district. He reportedly threatened government employees and local business owners and was engaged in extortion. Authorities seized a mobile phone and two SIM cards from his possession.
Officials affirmed that both anti-insurgency and traffic enforcement drives will continue to strengthen law and order in the state.
