NEW DELHI, 11 March (H.S.) : The initiative to clean the Yamuna has now expanded to
include a ferry cruise service, following the signing of a Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU). This agreement facilitates the launch of boat tourism and
ferry operations along the Yamuna River, specifically from Sonia Vihar to
Jagatpur in Delhi. This project is expected to enhance both tourism and the
transportation system in the area.
Delhi's Yamuna River is set to undergo a significant
transformation. A major initiative has been launched to introduce boat tourism
and ferry services along the Yamuna, extending from Sonia Vihar to Jagatpur
(Shani Mandir) in the city. On Tuesday, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was
executed among the Inland Waterways Authority of India, the Delhi Development
Authority (DDA), the Delhi Jal Board, the Irrigation and Flood Control
Department, and the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation to
facilitate this project.
Upon the commencement of this service, individuals will
benefit from numerous facilities along the Yamuna River. These will encompass
berthing jetties for boat docking, environmentally friendly solar and electric
boats, ticket booths, charging stations, a cafeteria, as well as various public
amenities and waiting areas.
This significant agreement was executed on 11 March 2025 at
Asita Park in New Delhi. The initiative aims to enhance inland water transport
within Delhi while simultaneously boosting tourism and the traffic
infrastructure. Present at the event were Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal,
Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and Ministers
Pravesh Verma and Kapil Mishra, along with senior officials from the relevant
department.
