Yamuna Ferry Cruise

NEW DELHI, 11 March (H.S.) : The initiative to clean the Yamuna has now expanded to

include a ferry cruise service, following the signing of a Memorandum of

Understanding (MoU). This agreement facilitates the launch of boat tourism and

ferry operations along the Yamuna River, specifically from Sonia Vihar to

Jagatpur in Delhi. This project is expected to enhance both tourism and the

transportation system in the area.

Delhi's Yamuna River is set to undergo a significant

transformation. A major initiative has been launched to introduce boat tourism

and ferry services along the Yamuna, extending from Sonia Vihar to Jagatpur

(Shani Mandir) in the city. On Tuesday, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was

executed among the Inland Waterways Authority of India, the Delhi Development

Authority (DDA), the Delhi Jal Board, the Irrigation and Flood Control

Department, and the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation to

facilitate this project.

Upon the commencement of this service, individuals will

benefit from numerous facilities along the Yamuna River. These will encompass

berthing jetties for boat docking, environmentally friendly solar and electric

boats, ticket booths, charging stations, a cafeteria, as well as various public

amenities and waiting areas.

This significant agreement was executed on 11 March 2025 at

Asita Park in New Delhi. The initiative aims to enhance inland water transport

within Delhi while simultaneously boosting tourism and the traffic

infrastructure. Present at the event were Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal,

Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and Ministers

Pravesh Verma and Kapil Mishra, along with senior officials from the relevant

department.
