Kolkata, 7 February (H.S.): A violent land dispute in the Bagaria area of Usthi police station, South 24 Parganas, led to a fatal shooting on Thursday night. The victim, identified as Buddhadev Haldar, was a resident of Chak Devi Ghosh in the Srichanda Gram Panchayat.

According to officials, assailants opened fire on Haldar late at night. Local residents rushed him to a nearby private hospital in critical condition. As his condition worsened, he was referred to Diamond Harbour Medical College, where doctors declared him dead.

Upon receiving the news, police arrived at the scene and sent the body for post-mortem examination. Authorities have launched an in-depth investigation into the murder. Preliminary findings suggest that the shooting stemmed from a business dispute related to land and soil trading.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the area, while the victim’s family is in deep mourning. Meanwhile, the police have intensified their probe and detained three suspects in connection with the case.
