Tamil Nadu, 5 February (H.S.): The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) is set to revolutionize parking at Marina Beach with the implementation of a new smart parking system. This initiative aims to streamline parking, increase revenue, and enhance transparency in fee collection.

Similar to parking management in commercial complexes, charges will be calculated based on the duration of vehicle parking along the beach's service road. A recent feasibility study indicated the potential to double revenue through this modern approach. The system will utilize sensor cards issued upon entry, scanned at exit points to calculate parking time and determine applicable fees.

Corporation Commissioner J Kumaragurubaran confirmed the system's implementation from the Marina swimming pool to the Lighthouse, with smart meters at five entry points and designated parking zones for motorcycles and cars. The project ( http://www.gccsmartparking.com/) is slated for launch by the end of July, with potential expansion to other beaches based on its success.
