New Delhi, February 04 (HS): Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Director General Pramod Kumar Tiwari said during the annual conference on healthcare sector that education industry's cooperation is needed in shaping standards that promote innovation and economic growth.
The BIS Director General was addressing the annual conference for deans and heads of departments of academic institutions and research and development organisations in the healthcare sector at its National Standardisation Training Institute in Noida.
The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution said on Tuesday that this was the first conference focused on the healthcare sector in the series of conferences being organised with academic and research organisations. About 36 participants from 28 institutions were present in the conference, represented by deans, heads of departments, faculty members and experts from research organisations.
Organised under the Department of Consumer Affairs, Government of India, the conference aimed to create awareness about standardisation in the healthcare and medical devices sector and to explore opportunities for collaboration with academia and research organisations to strengthen BIS's standardisation activity in this sector. BIS aims to strengthen the utility of Indian Standards which may not be limited exclusively to industries or consumer groups but may also prove to be of technical interest to academia. This exercise of engaging with institutions is an initiative to create greater awareness about standards within the academic and research sector.
