New Delhi, 3 February (HS): Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim has not got any relief in the case of desecration of Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji in Bargari. The Supreme Court has ordered to continue the ongoing investigation against Ram Rahim in three cases on the charge of desecration of Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji in Bargari.
However, a bench headed by Justice BR Gavai ordered to continue the stay on the ongoing investigation in these cases by the Punjab and Haryana High Court in March 2024. The next hearing of the case will be on March 18.
The Punjab government had challenged the decision of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in the Supreme Court. The case is of 2015. In its investigation, the Punjab Police had blamed Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda for the incidents of desecration of religious texts. In 2015, incidents of theft of a copy of Guru Granth Sahib, posters related to sacrilege and torn holy book were reported in Faridkot. After this incident, there was a protest in Faridkot. Two people were killed and some were injured in the firing on the protesters. Baba Ram Rahim was made an accused in three incidents.
