Guwahati/New Delhi, 26 February (HS): Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Wednesday that India is considering increasing its target of blending ethanol in petrol to more than 20 percent. For this, a committee has been formed under NITI Aayog.
Hardeep Singh Puri, while addressing the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit 2025 in Guwahati, said that the target of 19.6 percent blending has already been achieved. He said that more than 20 percent biofuel blending is being considered.
The Union Petroleum Minister said , we had set a target of 20 percent blending by 2026, but we have already achieved 19.6 percent.
He expressed hope of achieving target of 20 percent next month. Hardeep Singh Puri said that the country has a blending capacity of 1,700 crore liters, while already 1,500 crore liters are being used.
He said that India is spending 150 billion US dollars on various types of fuel imports and one area where attention is not being paid is green hydrogen. Puri said that every country is moving towards clean energy but this has to be done while dealing with the challenges and demands of the economy.
