Chandigarh, 26 February (HS): Giving a new turn to its internal politics in Punjab, Aam Aadmi Party has declared current Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora as its candidate in Ludhiana assembly by-election. A letter has been issued by the party in this regard on Wednesday.
After the defeat in Delhi assembly elections, there has been speculation that AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal will go to Rajya Sabha from Punjab and will be active in politics after that. This political speculation has been confirmed today. Now along with the assembly elections in Punjab, Rajya Sabha by-election will also be held.
Former MLA from Ludhiana West Gurpreet Singh Gogi died of bullet injury on January 11. Due to his death, this seat had become vacant. Now by-election will be held on this assembly seat. As per the rules, no seat can remain vacant for six months.
Interestingly, the Election Commission has not yet declared the Ludhiana West seat vacant, but the Aam Aadmi Party, considering it vacant, has first declared Rajya Sabha member Sanjeev Arora as its candidate for this seat.
Sanjeev Arora was elected Rajya Sabha member on 10 April 2022. His term is till 9 April 2028. After Sanjeev Arora became a candidate, it has become clear that now AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal can be the party's candidate in the mid-term elections for Rajya Sabha.
