New Delhi, 25 February (HS): On the petitions filed against the ban on products with Halal certificate in UP, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind has filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court saying that it does not issue Halal certificate for cement or iron rods. Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind has said that the argument of the Central Government is ridiculous.
Jamiat has said in the affidavit that Halal is known as a basic need of daily life. Under Article 25 and 26 of the Constitution, the religious beliefs and customs of a large population of India are protected. Jamiat has clearly said that it has not issued Halal certificate for iron rods or cement. It has been said in the affidavit that the choice of the type of food and the substances contained in it is the right of every person.
On January 20, the Supreme Court had directed Jamiat to file a counter affidavit. During the hearing on January 20, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta had said that I was surprised to know and you will also be surprised that there is a Halal certificate for cement. Flour, gram flour and even water bottles are all Halal certified. This certification generates income of lakhs of crores of rupees.
In fact, Chennai's Halal India Private Limited and Maharashtra Jamiat Ulema have filed a petition in the Supreme Court demanding a ban on the sale of products with Halal certificate in Uttar Pradesh and cancellation of FIRs registered against the institutions issuing Halal certificates. In the petition, the petitioners have demanded the cancellation of the FIR registered against them in UP. In this case, UP Police has registered an FIR in November 2023 against many organizations including Halal India Private Limited Company on charges of distributing fake Halal certificates. They are accused of playing with the religious sentiments of the people to gain economic profit. While hearing this petition, the Supreme Court had issued a notice to the UP government on January 5, 2024.
