- Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates Advantage Assam 2.0
Guwahati, 25 February (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma described Advantage Assam 2.0 as a milestone in Assam's industrial journey. He said that with the leadership and blessings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this summit will usher in a new era of development and possibilities. The Chief Minister expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Prime Minister on behalf of the people of Assam.
It is noteworthy that Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated the two-day Advantage Assam 2.0: Investment and Infrastructure Summit in Guwahati in the presence of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, several Union and State Ministers, foreign delegates and industry stalwarts.
At the inaugural ceremony, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted Assam's rich industrial heritage and the possibilities of making it a leader in the country's industrial landscape. He reiterated the Government of India's commitment to promote Assam's industrialization and praised the state for diversifying into technology and manufacturing sectors.
It is noteworthy that the objective of the Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit is to present the investment opportunities available in Assam, industrial ecosystem, favorable policies and huge market potential, so that investors can get profitable returns.
The Chief Minister said that the celebration of 200 years of Assam Tea reflects the industrial heritage of the state. He informed that the tea industry was first established in Assam in 1823. Assam also played a leading role in India's oil industry and coal was discovered here in 1847, which accelerated the industrialization of the state. He said that before independence, Assam was economically leading the country, with a per capita income of 4% more than the national average.
Dr. Sarma said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Assam has undergone a historic change. Since 2014, 2,324 km of national highways have been constructed, 600 km of meter gauge railways have been converted to broad gauge and Assam has now become a major hub in India's aviation sector. The state's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is projected to grow from $29 billion in 2013-14 to $68.7 billion in 2023-24, reflecting a Compounding Annual Growth Rate (CARG) of 12.4 per cent.
The Chief Minister invited all industrialists, investors and entrepreneurs to invest in Assam's diverse sectors. He assured that Assam will prove to be a reliable partner for investors and their investment journey will be rewarding and full of opportunities.
