Patna, 24 February (HS): A road accident in Bihar's capital Patna caused chaos. Seven people lost their lives while four were seriously injured in a collision between a truck and an auto in Patna district late Sunday night. All have been admitted to the local hospital.
According to the police, the auto was going from Masaurhi in Patna to Naubatpur. It collided with a truck on the way. There were 10 labourers in the auto. The bodies of the labourers who lost their lives in the accident have been sent to the hospital. The accident is being investigated. The grieving family members say that all the people were going to Kharat village. These people used to go to Patna daily for labour and return at night. Four of the deceased were from Doripar village, two from Begamchak. The driver was a resident of Hansdih village.
The deceased have been identified as 30-year-old Sushil Ram, son of late Shatrughan Ram (auto driver), resident of Hasadih, 40-year-old Mesh Bind, son of late Shatrughan Ram, resident of Doripar, 40-year-old Mesh Bind, son of late Santoshi Bind, 30-year-old Matendra Bind, son of Bhuletan Bind, 40-year-old Umesh Bind, son of Somer Bind, 30-year-old Umesh Bind, son of Machhru Bind and 20-year-old Suraj Thakur, son of Arjun Thakur, resident of Begamchak. The eighth person is stuck in the water of the pit under the truck. Efforts are on to rescue him.
As soon as the information of the accident was received, Masaurhi MLA Rekha Devi reached the spot. Expressing grief, she has demanded compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the dependents from the government. Masaurhi police said that information was received about a collision between a truck and an auto near Nura bridge under Masaurhi police station. On receiving the information, the police team immediately reached the spot and the Sub-Divisional Police Officer-01 Masaurhi inspected the spot.
