New Delhi, 24 February (HS): In view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Assam, Congress today made serious allegations against the central and Assam governments. The party said that the law and order situation in Assam has collapsed. The morale of anti-social elements has increased to such an extent that they are attacking even MPs in broad daylight.
In a joint press conference at the Congress headquarters today, party general secretary and Assam in-charge Jitendra Singh, Lok Sabha deputy leader Gaurav Gogoi, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Bhupen Kumar Bora, Assam Assembly opposition leader Debabrata Saikia, MPs Rakibul Hussain and Pradyut Bordoloi and AICC media and publicity department president Pawan Khera strongly criticized the state BJP government.
These leaders alleged that our leaders are being intimidated at the behest of the ruling BJP in Assam. The Congress leaders said that four days ago our MP Rakibul Hussain was attacked by some goons in a busy market in broad daylight. Not only this, the attackers also tried to snatch the weapons of the police security personnel. Earlier, PCC president Bhupen Bora was also attacked in broad daylight. They termed these attacks as a failure of the state BJP government.
The Congress alleges that Assam has the highest youth unemployment rate in the country. According to the state government data, more than 10 percent of the total population of the state is unemployed. The speakers criticized the poor state of industries and the poor system of education in the state. The central government has not yet fulfilled the promise of giving scheduled tribe status to tea garden workers. They alleged that the BJP has not yet fulfilled the promises made to the people of Assam in its 2016 vision document. Congress alleges that the BJP has failed to maintain the Assam Accord.
