Pune, 22 February (HS): India's top tennis player Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Vijay Sundar Prashanth pair have won the doubles title of Maha Open ATP Challenger 100. In this exciting final match played at Mahalunge Balewadi Tennis Stadium in Pune, the Indian pair defeated the second seeded Australian pair Blake Bayldon and Matthew Christopher Romeos 3-6, 6-3, 10-0 to win the title.
This was the first title of Jeevan and Prashant's pair together, while this was Prashant's third title in Pune. With this spectacular victory, the Indian pair got a prize money of Rs 7 lakh and 100 ATP points. With this, Jeevan's world ranking reached 94th and Prashant's to 104th.
In the singles final to be played on Sunday, sixth seeded American player Brandon Holt will face unseeded Dalibor Svercina of the Czech Republic.
In the semi-final match, 26-year-old and sixth seed Brandon Holt, ranked 153rd in the world, took one hour and 34 minutes to beat eighth seed Alexis Galarneau of Canada 7-5, 6-4. After taking a 5-0 lead in the first set, Holt was tied 5-5 by Galarneau, but eventually the American player won the set and the match.
On the other hand, 22-year-old Dalibor Svercina of the Czech Republic made it to his first Challenger final.
He defeated Khumoyun Sultanov of Uzbekistan 6-7(8), 6-0, 3-1 (retired). Sultanov had to withdraw from the match due to heat and fatigue, allowing Svercina to enter the final.
The eyes of tennis lovers will be fixed on this match to be held on Sunday.
