Kannauj,
9 Dec (HS): Three people accused of religious conversion were arrested and sent
to jail by the police. Prior to this, the police station and the Special
Operations Group (SOG) team interrogated the accused. However, the police
refrained from commenting on the network involved in the conversion. This is
not the first case of religious conversion in the district. The conspiracy of
Christian missionaries to lure villagers into religious conversions came to
light in Thathiya Karsah village when Bajrang Dal members entered a house and
created a ruckus. Women were sent forward to stop the Bajrang Dal workers,
while the people involved in the conversions locked themselves inside. Upon
receiving information, the police opened the room and arrested Pannalal,
Vidyasagar, and Umashankar Dohre. They recovered a Bible, a bag, two sealed
bottles, and books from their possession. Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar
stated that the three arrested accused are residents of Karsah village. An FIR
has been registered against them and they have been sent to jail.
The
accused claimed to have built the house in Karsah village where the religious
conversions were taking place, using a loan. To determine the truth, the police
took them to the Rural Bank branch in Ausar, where they gathered information.
The Thathiya police station and the SOG team interrogated the accused, but they
continued to mislead the police. The police are currently investigating this
conversion network linked to Christian missionaries.
They
were released after apologizing: Regarding the matter, Bajrang Dal leader Umesh
Vajpayee said that the game of religious conversion was going on in many
villages of Thathiya area. The organization had already informed the police
about this. After arresting the people who were converting people, the police
kept releasing them after making them apologize, due to which their network
kept expanding in the area. He said that earlier cases of forced religious
conversion had also come to light in Kakraghata, Karaundashah Nagar and
Bhakharauli villages of Thathiya area.
These
days, the religious conversion network is widespread in several villages in the
Thathiya, Saurikh, and Gursahaiganj areas of the district. Earlier in August,
police arrested some of the perpetrators of religious conversions from a house
in Gursahaiganj. Gowda Prasad, a resident of Andhra Pradesh, was jailed, and
the investigation stalled thereafter. Reaching the network of religious
conversions has become a challenge for the Kannauj police.
