New Delhi, 6 December (H.S.): Amid the ongoing operational crisis at IndiGo Airlines, the Ministry of Civil Aviation on Saturday imposed a temporary cap on airfares across affected sectors to curb excessive ticket pricing by other carriers. Exercising its regulatory powers, the ministry directed all airlines to strictly adhere to the newly prescribed maximum fare limits.

According to the official order, airlines are prohibited from charging fares above the capped rates until IndiGo’s flight operations stabilize and normal schedules resume. The government emphasized that this move aims to prevent the exploitation of stranded passengers and ensure that those who need to travel urgently—such as senior citizens, students, and patients—are not subjected to undue financial hardship.

Authorities further confirmed that continuous monitoring of airlines and online booking platforms is underway. Real-time data on ticket prices will be collected, and any airline found charging beyond the notified limit will face immediate regulatory action.

The ministry’s decision underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining fairness and affordability in air travel during the crisis period.
