Chennai, 27 December (H.S.) : Kotagiri, December 27: A tragic accident occurred in the hill station of Kotagiri where two laborers were buried alive while engaged in the task of digging a well.

The victims were reportedly working deep inside the excavation site when a massive portion of the surrounding earth suddenly caved in, trapping them under a heavy mound of soil and debris. Local residents who witnessed the incident immediately alerted the emergency services and the police department for urgent rescue operations.

Upon receiving the information, rescue teams including personnel from the Fire and Rescue Services department rushed to the spot to begin the recovery process. Despite the challenging terrain and the risk of further soil collapses, the teams worked continuously to reach the trapped individuals.

After several hours of intensive labor and the use of heavy machinery, the bodies of the two workers were finally retrieved from the depths of the well. The local administration has expressed deep grief over the loss of life and assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted into the safety measures at the site.

Preliminary reports from the authorities suggest that the lack of proper structural support during the deep digging process might have led to the fatal landslide. The police have registered a case and are currently questioning the contractor and site supervisors to determine if there were any lapses in safety protocols.
