Guwahati, 26 December (HS): Bharatiya Janata Party National Working President Nitin Navin on Friday said that during the tenure of the previous Congress government, illegal foreigners could easily enter Assam, but such activities have now become impossible. He made the remarks while addressing party workers at the inaugural session of the State Executive Meeting held at the Srimanta Sankaradeva International Auditorium.

According the BJP State Spokesperson Jayanta Kumar Goswami, the first session of the opening day of the State Executive Meeting began with a welcome address by State President Dilip Saikia. After that, addressing the gathering, Nitin Navin said that he has shared a close association with Assam since 2009 through his organisational work with the BJP Yuva Morcha, and highlighted the major changes witnessed in the political environment of the state since then.

He further stated that since the formation of the BJP government in Assam in 2016, revolutionary changes have taken place in the field of development, bringing visible progress across sectors.

The inaugural session was attended by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, BJP National Vice President Baijayant Jay Panda, Union Minister Pabitra Margherita, National General Secretary (Organisation) BL Santosh and State General Secretary (Organisation) Rabindra Raju, among others.

It may be noted that ahead of the meeting, thousands of BJP workers accorded a grand welcome to the newly appointed National Working President and popular youth leader by taking out a massive procession from Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport to Sankardev Kalakshetra.

The two-day State Executive Meeting commenced today and will conclude tomorrow at 2:00 pm.
