
New Delhi, 24 December (H.S.): Indian equity markets opened in positive territory on Wednesday, the third trading day of the week, reflecting renewed investor optimism.The Bombay Stock Exchange's Sensex climbed 144.16 points, or 0.17 percent, to trade at 85,669 in early sessions.
Meanwhile, the National Stock Exchange's Nifty advanced 36.30 points, or 0.14 percent, reaching 26,213.45.Out of the Sensex's 30 constituents, 21 shares registered gains, while 34 of the Nifty's 50 stocks moved higher. Sectorally, NSE indices for media, metals, and realty posted upticks, though IT shares witnessed declines.
The Indian rupee also strengthened by 12 paise against the US dollar, trading at 89.51 in initial deals.
Asian markets mirrored the upbeat sentiment, with South Korea's Kospi up 0.13 percent at
4,122, Japan's Nikkei rising 0.093 percent to 50,460, Hong Kong's Hang Seng advancing 0.097 percent to 25,799, and China's Shanghai Composite gaining 0.24 percent to 3,929.
Notably, the previous session saw the Sensex close down 42.63 points, or 0.050 percent, at 85,524.84, while the Nifty edged up 4.75 points, or 0.018 percent, to end at 26,177.15.
