New Delhi, 23 December (H.S.): Severe fog and extremely low visibility continued to disrupt flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in the national capital on Tuesday. At least ten flights were cancelled, while more than 270 experienced significant delays throughout the day, airport officials confirmed.

According to sources, six arrivals and four departures were cancelled due to poor weather conditions. The global flight-tracking portal Flightradar24.com reported that over 270 flights were delayed, with an average departure delay of nearly 29 minutes.

A spokesperson for Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) stated that visibility at the airport had started to improve gradually, but some flights to specific destinations could still face operational delays. “The situation is improving; however, lingering fog in parts of North India might continue to affect flight schedules,” the official added.

Meanwhile, IndiGo Airlines issued a travel advisory for passengers, cautioning them about possible disruptions. The airline informed that Prayagraj, Ayodhya, and Pantnagar also remained under the grip of dense fog and cold morning winds, leading to fluctuating visibility levels.

“Due to variable weather conditions, several flight schedules have been adjusted. We expect our operations to normalize progressively once conditions improve,” IndiGo said in a statement.

The Indira Gandhi International Airport, one of the world’s busiest hubs, handles nearly 1,300 flights daily. Despite the deployment of advanced CAT-III Instrument Landing Systems (ILS), which assist pilots during low-visibility operations, persistent heavy fog has severely impacted both domestic and international air traffic this week.
