
New Delhi, 22 December (H.S.): The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi reserved its judgment on Monday in the Janakpuri violence case linked to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, involving accused Congress leader Sajjan Kumar, with Special Judge Digvinay Singh scheduling the pronouncement for January 22.The court had concluded the trial on September 23, and during Monday's hearing, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sought one week to file written arguments.
The judge directed Sajjan Kumar to submit his rejoinder within the following week after the CBI's submissions.Accused Denies Involvement, Victim Cites Hearsay TestimonySajjan Kumar proclaimed his innocence on July 7, asserting he could not have participated in the crime even in a dream and that no evidence existed against him.
Victim Manjeet Kaur, in her statement recorded on November 9, 2023, recounted hearing from the mob that Sajjan Kumar was present but clarified she had not witnessed him directly.
On August 23, 2023, the court framed charges against Kumar under Indian Penal Code Sections 147, 148, 153A, 295, 149, 307, 308, 323, 325, 395, and 436, while directing the SIT to drop the murder charge under Section 302.
