Delhi, 20 December (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi is addressing a massive BJP rally in Taherpur, Nadia district, virtually on Saturday after dense fog prevented his helicopter from landing at the venue, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to connecting with the people despite adverse weather.

Arriving in Kolkata around 10:40 a.m., the Prime Minister's chopper hovered over the makeshift helipad but executed a U-turn due to critically low visibility, returning safely to the airport where arrangements were swiftly made for the virtual address from the VIP lounge.

In his resolute speech to thousands of enthusiastic supporters gathered since morning—who had swelled beyond capacity, prompting security to close entry gates—PM Modi apologized for his physical absence while launching a pointed critique of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government.

He accused the Mamata Banerjee-led administration of shielding illegal infiltrators and opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls, emphasizing BJP's dedication to protecting genuine citizens, particularly the Matua community.

The event marked the formal launch of BJP's campaign for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, coinciding with recent draft electoral roll publications amid SIR controversies.

Prior to the rally, PM Modi inaugurated key national highway projects from Kolkata, underscoring his vision for enhanced connectivity and development in Bengal.

Two separate platforms had been prepared at Taherpur—one for project launches and another for the Parivartan Sankalpa Sabha—highlighting meticulous planning despite the unforeseen fog disruption over the 100-km route.

Officials noted road travel remained impractical due to time constraints and his subsequent itinerary, including a two-day Assam visit.

PM Modi's adept handling of the situation, prioritizing safety while ensuring direct engagement with the masses, exemplifies his people-centric leadership and resolve to advance Bengal's progress.
