Chennai, 19 December (H.S.) : In a coordinated operation, the Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit of the Greater Chennai Police arrested eight individuals in two separate cases of drug peddling in the Triplicane area on Thursday. Acting on specific intelligence, the unit conducted raids that led to the recovery of various narcotics, including methamphetamine and cannabis.

The first crackdown took place near the intersection of Bells Road and CNK Road, where a combined team of intelligence personnel and local police apprehended five suspects. From this group, the authorities confiscated 8.5 grams of methamphetamine and 600 grams of cannabis, along with a small amount of cash.

According to police authorities, a simultaneous second raid was carried out on Victoria Hostel Road in Chepauk, resulting in the arrest of three more individuals. During this second operation, officials seized an additional 5 grams of methamphetamine and 500 grams of cannabis.

The total haul from both cases amounted to 13.5 grams of methamphetamine and more than 1 kilogram of cannabis. The arrested individuals, who range in age from 18 to 26, were taken into custody and interrogated to determine the source of the contraband and their distribution network within the city.

Statements from the Greater Chennai Police confirmed that all eight accused were produced before a court on Friday following their initial interrogation. Based on judicial orders, they have been remanded to judicial custody as the investigation continues.

Authorities emphasized that these arrests are part of an ongoing intensified effort to eliminate drug trafficking and protect the youth in sensitive urban areas. The police have also stated that further updates will be provided as they work to identify other members of the drug peddling ring involved in these cases.
