
Hyderabad, 19 December (H.S.): , President of India Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the National Conference for the Chairpersons of Public Service Commissions (PSCs) organized by the Telangana State Public Service Commission in Hyderabad on Friday, emphasizing the crucial role of PSCs in upholding the constitutional ideals of justice, equality, and good governance.
Addressing the gathering, President Murmu reminded that the framers of the Constitution dedicated an entire section to Services and Public Service Commissions, signifying the vital position these institutions hold in ensuring fair and merit-based public recruitment.She said that Public Service Commissions must not only uphold equality of opportunity but also strive toward achieving equality of outcomes, acting as “change-agents” that promote social and administrative equity.
Highlighting the importance of integrity, the President stated that honesty and ethical conduct must be treated as paramount and non-negotiable criteria in public recruitment. While a lack of skills could be addressed through training, she cautioned that a deficiency in integrity poses grave challenges and can irreparably harm governance systems.
President Murmu further stressed that aspiring civil servants should demonstrate commitment toward serving marginalized and vulnerable communities, while also being sensitive to the needs and aspirations of women. She underscored that gender sensitization must be a key focus area for all Public Service Commissions.
Referring to India’s development trajectory, the President noted that as the world’s fastest-growing major economy, the country requires highly efficient and ethical governance systems. She expressed confidence that PSCs will continue playing a pivotal role in building a future-ready civil service aligned with India’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and the nation’s ambition to become the third-largest economy.
