Kolkata, 16 December (H.S.):
Following the incident at the Yuva Bharati Krirangan stadium, BJP leader Amit Malviya launched a scathing attack on Tuesday on social media platform X, criticizing the resignation of West Bengal Sports Minister Arup Biswas and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's swift acceptance of it. He termed it a mere tactic to appease public anger rather than genuine accountability.
In his post, Amit Malviya wrote, TMC Sports Minister Aroop Biswas resigns after the Messi fiasco, and Mamata Banerjee accepts it in record time.
Do not mistake this for accountability; this is nothing but a rear-guard action to douse public anger!
The BJP leader emphasized that this is not 'Raj Dharma' (righteous governance). He wrote that it is an open admission that the collapse of the Messi event was not accidental, but a man-made disaster. According to Malviya, this incident is a result of the poor governance of Mamata Banerjee, her ministers, and the bureaucracy.
Malviya listed three main reasons for the incident. First, the looting of common people, which has become synonymous with the TMC. Second, the shameful VIP culture on which the TMC thrives. And third, the deeply entrenched system of nepotism fostered by Mamata Banerjee.
The BJP leader further wrote that this resignation exposes the collective failure of Mamata Banerjee, her biased bureaucracy, and her close-knit cabinet. He said that no resignation can bring back the lost time, the wasted money, or the stolen opportunity for football fans to see Messi in Kolkata.
In a strongly worded conclusion to his post, Malviya wrote, This is a symbolic sacrifice, a political hoax, soon to be buried under layers of bureaucracy, with no justice, no accountability, and no remorse! Malviya's strong statement came in the context of the controversial incident where a huge uproar erupted after Argentine football superstar Lionel Messi did not play in a match scheduled to be held in Kolkata. Thousands of fans who had bought expensive tickets to see Messi returned deeply disappointed. This incident raised serious questions about the TMC government's organizational and management capabilities. The government faced severe criticism over the high ticket prices, poor arrangements, and the failure to inform the public in advance about Messi's absence. Under this pressure, Sports Minister Arup Biswas had to resign, but the BJP considers this merely a show of pretense.
