16 Dec (HS): A 22-year-old man was detained in Sitapur district on Tuesday for
reportedly kidnapping a 16-year-old girl and repeatedly raping her for about
two weeks, according to authorities. According to authorities, the girl, a
class 10 student from a hamlet near Dubhar police station, went missing on
December 1 after leaving her house for college. When
she failed to return, her family looked for her and filed a missing person
report the following day. Dubhar SHO Ajay Pal said the girl was rescued on
Monday from a spot in the Dubhar area of district.
In
her police statement, the child stated that she had made contact with Ranjit
Pal (22), a resident of Sarva village in Sitapur district's Sidhauli region,
via mobile communication. She
said that Ranjit abducted and raped her for about two weeks. Based on the
girl's allegation, police charged the accused with rape and booked him under
the relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences
(POCSO) Act. According to SP Omveer Singh, the culprit was caught in Dubhar
town on Tuesday and taken to jail after legal processes were completed.
