Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday lauded Nagaland’s iconic Hornbill Festival, calling it a resplendent celebration of India’s cultural plurality and the enduring vitality of its tribal traditions.

Sharing an article on X authored by Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, the Prime Minister described the festival as a vivid reflection of the country’s “new and confident” Northeast — a region that, he said, now stands as a symbol of India’s renewed spirit of unity and progress.“

The Hornbill Festival is more than an event; it is a living expression of joy, identity, and India’s composite heritage,” the Prime Minister observed. Commending Nagaland for transforming its rich tribal narrative into a magnificent showcase of art, dance, and folklore, he added that the State truly lives up to its title as the “Land of Festivals.”

PM Modi was responding to a post by Mr. Scindia, who in his article depicted the Hornbill Festival as “a kaleidoscope of the human spirit and a seamless fusion of the ancient and the contemporary.”

The Union Minister emphasised that India’s ascent on the global stage is intrinsically linked to the growth and confidence of its northeastern region.Reiterating this sentiment, the Prime Minister said that the exuberance and cultural confidence radiating from Nagaland exemplify the essence of a vibrant, resurgent India, where every tradition contributes to the nation’s collective symphony of progress and pride.

The Hornbill Festival, celebrated annually in December, brings together tribes from across Nagaland and other northeastern states, showcasing the region’s rich heritage through traditional performances, handicrafts, cuisine, and cultural exchanges that attract visitors from India and abroad.
