
Hooghly, December 12 (HS): A young man who was taken into police custody at night was found dead near railway tracks the next morning, sparking massive unrest in Balagarh in Hooghly district. The cause of the young man's death remains a mystery. The deceased's family and relatives expressed anger against the police. Balagarh police station was vandalized, with CCTV cameras and child-friendly corners destroyed.
As per information, the deceased has been identified as Sheikh Asadul Mandal. The young man's mutilated body was found near Balagarh station on Friday morning. As soon as news spread, the deceased's family and relatives gathered at Balagarh police station.
Asadul's family claimed that the young man was taken away by the police from Balagarh police station on Thursday night. The young man had informed his brother-in-law about this through a text message. But he did not explain why he was taken away. Afterward, Asadul did not return home overnight. The family tried several times to contact the young man, but to no avail. The body was found in the morning.
The family claimed that the police are behind Asadul's death. This is why they vandalized the police station. The police said that the young man was brought to the police station late Thursday night on charges of drunken driving. However, he was released that night after signing a bail bond. It is unknown how the young man died after that.
The police stated that an investigation will be conducted, and only that will reveal the cause of death. Angry family members created a ruckus at the Balagarh police station. CCTV cameras were broken and the child-friendly corner was also damaged. Tension prevailed in the entire area.
