Maharashtra BJP Chief Ravindra Chavan Meets Amit Shah Ahead of Civic Polls

Delhi, 11 December (H.S.): Maharashtra BJP president Ravindra Chavan met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi on Wednesday night for organisational discussions ahead of upcoming civic elections in the state, sources said on Thursday.

During the meeting, Chavan briefed Shah on recent political developments in Maharashtra. The discussions included inputs from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde regarding election preparations.

Sources said a summary of Fadnavis-Shinde deliberations was shared with Shah. BJP local body polls in-charge Chandrashekhar Bawankule confirmed that constituents of the ruling Mahayuti alliance—BJP, Shinde-led Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar’s NCP—would contest the civic elections as allies.

The December 2 polls to various municipal councils and nagar panchayats saw intense competition between the alliance constituents in certain areas, with reports of clashes even among supporters of the ruling allies.

Poll authorities have not yet announced the schedule for elections to major civic bodies, including the financially significant Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

As per the Supreme Court directive, elections to all local bodies in Maharashtra must be completed by January 31, 2026.
