
Imphal, 10 December (HS): In a series of coordinated operations in the last 24 hours, security forces recovered a cache of arms and explosives from the forest area of Hengkapkot village under Churachandpur Police Station. The recovery included an improvised mortar fitted with an explosive initiation system, two high-explosive bombs, a smoke grenade and 27 blank cases of assorted firearms. Officials said the operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs.
In a separate action, forces apprehended an active KYKL (O) cadre, identified as Ahanthem Punikanta Singh alias Deepak, 43, from the vicinity of Sunrise Ground in Moreh under Tengnoupal district. The arrest, made without resistance, is expected to aid ongoing investigations linked to insurgent activities in the region.
Another operation carried out by security personnel led to the arrest of an extortionist associated with the KCP (PWG). The accused, Akham Romesh Singh alias Thoisana, 30, was picked up from Langol Laimanai under Lamphel Police Station in Imphal West. A mobile phone and his Aadhaar card were seized during the operation.
Meanwhile, Manipur Police nabbed two alleged vehicle lifters near the Medical Directorate at Lamphel. The duo, identified as Md. Milan, 27, of Golapati Maning Leikai, and Md. Serajun, 27, of Borayangbi (BPR) currently residing at New Chekon, Imphal East, were caught while attempting to steal vehicles. Police said further investigation is underway.------
